Quinceañeras are a favorite photo assignment. Spiritual, colorful, festive. Usually there is a church service (often a Catholic Mass) followed by a reception. And everyone wants a photo with the guest of honor! So I get hundreds and hundreds of fun photos!
In case you don’t know about quinceañeras, they are a celebration of a young girl at fifteen moving into adulthood. Never pass up an invitation to one of these! They are lots of fun. I enjoy the tradition of the doll dance. This is where the quince girl starts dancing with her last childhood doll and then invites her younger sister to join in the dance. As the dance progresses, the older sister passes the doll along to her younger sister, symbolizing the end of childhood.
Another great part of a quinceañera is the highly choreographed dances. The quince girl dances with uncles, or cousins, or friends. These dances are as good as anything you’ll see on Dancing with the Stars!
